KOTA KINABALU: The
Cabbage Festival in Kundasang to be held on Dec 10 will showcase various
vegetable produce from the Kundasang highland farming community.
Spokesperson for the event, Wasry Tarisin
said the main thrusts of the event is to highlight the farm produce and
tourism product in Kundasang.
“This year round, we will showcase 25
types of vegetables available in the highland,” he said, adding that
participants from 16 villages are expected to join in the event.
According to him, each participant are
expected to showcase their best produce which can be any type of
vegetables within the 25 types.
He said the participants can showcase their best produce, which will be judged by its size, its freshness and lusciousness.
“Officials from the Agriculture
Department, FAMA and Planters Association will be involved in the
judging of the best farm produce,” he said.
According to him, an information booth
within the Kundasang Township premises will also be sited to repudiate
claims that the highland vegetables there are saturated with pesticides
and herbicides.
Besides that there will also be a booth
to showcase household and farming instruments from the olden days, he
shared adding that this will ensure that youth will have a knowledge of
these gadgets of yore, while visitors have a glimpse of the people's
lifestyle in the olden days.
Another booth which should be visited is
the Traditional Costume Booth where youth dressed in full traditional
regalia will be available for picture taking for a fee.
Wasry stressed that the Cabbage Festival
promises a fun and informative 3-day event where various Government
Departments will be showcasing their services and wares, while revellers
including children enjoy the activities organised for them.
