KOTA KINABALU: Several sports activities have been lined up for the Cabbage Festival in Kundasang to be held on Dec 10 this year.
Spokesperson for the event Wasry Tarisin
said in the morning there will be a Kundasang Kembarathon, which will be
flagged off by the Minister of Tourism Culture and Environment Datuk
Masidi Manjun.
He said the kembarathon comes in three
categories, mainly 21-kilometre run Open, 18 kilometre Run Veteran and
9-Kilometre Run Junior.
According to him, for the Open category,
the winner will receive RM1000 cash, a medal and a participation
certificate, runner up RM800, a medal and participation certificate
while the second runner up will receive RM500 and a medal and
participation certificate. The fourth to 10th placing will acquire RM100 and a medal and participation certificate.
“The Veteran Category's winner will bring
home RM800, a medal and participation certificate, runner up RM500 and a
medal and participation certificate, the second runner up RM300, medal
and participation certificate while the fourth to tenth placing will
receive RM100, medal and a participation certificate.”
As for the Junior Category, the winner
will bring home RM500, a medal and participation certificate, runner up
RM300, a medal and participation certificate and third place RM150, a
medal and participation certificate. Those from the fourth to 10th placing will bring home RM80, medal and a participation certificate, he elaborated. Wasry shared that they expect 300 participation for the three categories.
A Motorcross Enduro Challenge which is opened to interested members of the public will also be held on the same day. The spokesperson for this event, Aziz
Rijin shared that their target for participation is 30 people with
motorbikes of 150cc engine below.
“The winners can expect to bring home
RM800 and a medal for first place, RM550 and a medal for runner up,
second runner up at RM350 and a medal with the fourth and fifth placings
receiving RM350 and a medal respectively. The sixth to tenth places
come with a hamper,” he elaborated.
A 4x4 Challenge will also be held at a
circuit near the Kundasang Township, its organisor Jabinus Suani stated
adding that at least 10 participants are expected to show up for the
event.
The winner can hope to bring home RM3000, runner up RM1500, third place RM700, fourth place and fifth place RM250.
Other sports competitions are futsal, for both men and women categories, sports for children and Tug o' War for Men.
The Guest of Honour for the event is
Datuk Yahya Hussin the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. The
Cabbage Festival is an annual event, which starts on Friday Dec 9 and
ends on Sunday 11.-AV/BTN
