KOTA KINABALU: Several sports activities including the Kundasang Kembaraton have been lined up for this year’s Cabbage Festival in Kundasang on Dec 10.
The race which is divided into three categories, namely 21km open, 18km veteran and 9km junior, will be flagged off by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun in the morning, organising chairman Wasry Tarisin, said yesterday.
The top three of the open category will receive RM1,000, RM800 and RM500, while the veteran runners RM800, RM500 and RM300. The fourth to 10th placed runners of both categories will get RM100 each.
“The top three in the junior category will receive RM500, RM300 and RM150, followed by RM80 for those who finished from fourth to tenth placing. All the winners will also receive a medal and a participation certificate,” said Wasri who is expecting some 300 participants to sign up for the race.
“Also in the programme is the motorcross enduro challenge which is opened to the public,” said event spokesperson Aziz Rijin.
“In the offing are RM800, RM550 and RM350 for the top three, while the next finishers until the 10th placing will each be given a hamper. We are targeting 30 participants and their machines must be 150cc and below,” he added.
“A four-wheel-drive challenge will also be held at a circuit near the Kundasang township, said organiser Jabinus Suani.
At least 10 off-road enthusiasts are expected to show up for the event which offers RM3,000, RM1,500 and RM700 for the top three. A token of RM500 will be given to the fourth and fifth placed participants.
Other games include futsal for both men and women categories, sports for children and tug of war for the Herculean men.
Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin is expected to officiate at the annual festival on Dec 9-11.
